In the story “ A Dark Brown Dog”by Stephen Crane, the author choose to narrate the story in third person. By doing this we learned the emotions of all characters and how the main characters, the boy and the dog, felt about one another. Cranes tone in the story is a dark humorous way, he finds humour in unlikely situations or things that are just unusual.” He swung him two or three times hilariously about his head, and then flung him with great accuracy through the window” normally a drunk father wouldn't abuse a pet in such ways that this father was described to do but, it still has a humorous tone and at the same time is kind of serious. The way the author tells the story makes me feel kinda shocked and kind of ashamed of the way the father and the son treated this poor dog and abused him.
In the story “ The Day I Got Lost” by Isaac Bashevis Singer, Its is told in first person by Shlemiel. You can tell this because he says “ I carry an overstuffed briefcase, and I’m forever making mistakes”. The text is written in a humorous way of showing that Shlemiel is a clumsy, forgetful, silly guy. They show that he is just a guy that lost his way around in a goofy tone “ I am what is known as an absentminded professor”. This story makes you feel kind of joyful when you read it, it makes you crack a smile.

In the poem "The Names" by Billy Collins the author is trying to remember the ones lost on that day by saying the names of "everyone", but seeing them places as if he were taking a walk. "names blown over the earth and out the sea" when the author wrote this his tone seemed depressed and melancholy he says "yesterday i lay awake in the palm of the night."
